ENVIRONMENTAL NOTIFICATION: PROSPECTING RIGHT APPLICATION

Notice is given of an application for a Prospecting Right in terms of Section 16 of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002 (Act 28 of 2002) (MPRDA) and an Application for Environmental Authorization in terms of Chapter 6 of GNR 982 promulgated under the National Environmental Management Act (Act 107 of 1998)(NEMA) to prospect for diamonds in general over portion 2, 3 and 5 of the farm Rietfontein 34KS, located approximately 26 km East of Mokopane and 30 km South West of Polokwane, in Limpopo, South Africa. A Prospecting Right Application was submitted by the Applicant under reference number LP30/5/1/1/2/13480PR.

 

Nature of Activity (proposed prospecting operation):

The applicant has applied for a prospecting right application with bulk sampling, for Diamonds in General. The objective of this operation is to obtain accurate estimates of the in-situ volume, diamond content and potential revenue of the deposit should it exist. If the results of this work are favourable, the project may move on to the evaluation phase, where local grades and macro diamond values are established to arrive at a Measured Resource. The area is adjacent to previous mining activities, namely Eersteling Gold Mine.

 

The following NEMA listed activity is included in this application:

Activities directly related to prospecting of a mineral resource, including the operation of that activity which requires a prospecting right in terms of section 16 of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002 (Act No. 28 of 2002), including associated infrastructure, structures and earthworks (GNR 983 Activity 20). Non-invasive activities include a Literature Survey, Analytical Desktop Studies, Geological Mapping, Petrographic Work, Ground Geophysical Surveys, Pre- feasibility-, Feasibility Study and Permitting and authorizations should the operation be successful. Invasive activities include, Reconnaissance Soil Sampling, Reverse-Circulation (RC) Drilling, Mini-bulk samples and potentially Bulk soil sampling as a final phase, should the results of previous phases be positive.

 

Location:

Portion 2, portion 3 and portion 5 of the farm Rietfontein 34KS is located approximately 26 km East of Mokopane and 30 km South West of Polokwane, in the Polokwane magisterial district of Limpopo, South Africa.

Approximately 200 Ha (proposed prospecting area of interest) of 1860.8287 Ha (total extent of farm portion)

An initial notification period of 30 days is provided to allow any parties to register as an Interested and Affected Party (I&AP) for the project. Please note that all registered I&AP’s willbe also afforded an opportunity (a period of 30 days) to review the Basic Assessment Report (BAR) once this document has been completed and to provide any additional comment, queries or concerns regarding theproject during this time.
